Walter Ricciardi

Walter Ricciardi is a Full Professor of Hygiene at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Director of the School of Public Health of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Rome).

He is the President of the Mission Board for Cancer of the European Commission; of the Scientific Committee of the Human Technopole Foundation; of the European Mission Board for vaccination; of the Scientific Committee of BBMRI-ERIC.

Codirector of the Leadership Academy of the World Health Organization – Regional Office for Europe.

Member of the International Honorary Advisory Faculty of the National Screening Advisory Committee, Ireland; of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development: Rethinking policy priorities in the light of pandemics – WHO – Regional Office for Europe; of the Scientific Board, Santé Publique France; of the Advisory Group of the World Health Organization for the reform of the healthcare system of the Federal Republic of Germany; of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Vatican.

He has been Scientific Director of ICS Maugeri (2020-2023); Representative of Italy on the Executive Council of the World Health Organization (2017-2020); Commissioner (2014-2015) and President (2015-2018) of the Italian National Institute of Health.

Member of the Expert Panel on Effective ways of investing in Health of the European Commission (DG-SANTE) (2013-2016 and 2016-2019).

Past President of the European Public Health Association (2003-2004 and 2010-2014) and of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (2020-2022).

Member of the Board of Directors of the National Board of Medical Examiners of the USA (NBME) (2009-2015).

Founder and Director of the National Observatory for the Health of the Italian Regions (since 2002).
